AMD confirms the Radeon RX 600 series in new driver

There will be launches from AMD this summer and the processor maker is making a big splash. The all-new Ryzen 3000 processor series with the architecture Zen 2 and up to 16 cores for the AM4 socket is flanked by the graphics architecture Navi, which takes the step down to 7 nanometers and takes up the fight against Nvidia.

What the naming of the new graphics card series will be is still shrouded in obscurity, but now a first indication of this will be found in nothing less than AMD’s own drivers. These are a Radeon RX 640 and Radeon 630, which thus become part of the unknown Radeon RX 600 series.

The finding was made by “Just Some Noise” on Techpowerup’s forum and the driver in question is Radeon Software 19.4.3. The software’s INF file reveals that the duo has similar Device IDs as the Radeon RX 550X and RX 540X, which suggests that in both cases they are renamed graphics card models.

Both graphics cards are based on a later iteration of the Lexa circuit called Polaris 23, which is AMD’s lowest segmented in the Polaris family. In a non-scaled-down version, it is equipped with 640 stream processors, has a 128-bit memory bus and is equipped with 2 or 4 GB GDDR5. The circuit is manufactured at 14 nanometers.

It is worth mentioning that there are rumors that graphics cards based on the architecture Navi will be called Radeon RX 3000. This has not yet been confirmed, but it is possible that this will be the case and that the Radeon RX 600 series is used for lower segments or only OEM market for prefabricated systems.

The fact that the half-new graphics cards are represented in AMD’s official drivers suggests that a launch of these and perhaps the entire Radeon RX 600 series is imminent. The only thing AMD has confirmed is that the 7-nanometer Navi architecture will be released during the third quarter of the year.
