AMD is entering the graphics card market

The graphics maker Nvidia has for a long time been by far the strongest player in the graphics card market and today accounts for about 70 percent of all copies sold. In recent years, however, AMD has begun to increase gradually and has begun to take back an increasing part of the pie.

According to a new report from Jon Peddie Research, AMD’s market share has increased by about 10 percentage points in the past year. The company has gone from 18.8 percent of the market to 29.1 percent during the same period this year. However, Nvidia is still the largest with a market share of 70.9 percent, which increased by 0.9 percentage points from the previous quarter.

The biggest reason for the increase is said to be gaming and that products in that segment are becoming increasingly popular. However, the report mentions that game-oriented computers and graphics circuits still make up a relatively small part of the total market.

In other respects, it is noted that the number of graphics cards sold is higher than the number of computers. This is believed to be due to the respective manufactured technology for using more than one graphics card (Crossfire and SLI), something that is popular among enthusiasts. While gaming has helped boost computer sales, it is predicted to fall in the future.
