AMD launches graphics architecture Navi in the summer of 2018 (Launched date)

After a long wait, AMD introduced the Vega graphics architecture at the beginning of the summer, which was first released to professional users and then came to consumers in the form of Radeon RX Vega 64 and RX Vega 56. This one succeeded Polaris and next in line is Navi, which takes the step to 7 nanometers.

Before Navi, AMD will in 2018 release a refreshed version of Vega at 12 nanometers (12nm), previously 14nm + at Globalfoundries, where higher performance and energy efficiency are on the menu. This has led many to conclude that Navi will not be released until 2019 or at the earliest at the end of 2018.

Tweaktown now reports that the Navi architecture can be released as early as next summer, during the period June-August. Furthermore, a graphics card based on Navi for professional users is stated to be released during the graphics conference Siggraph 2018, which kicks off on 12 August.

So far, AMD is keeping a close eye on the details of the Navi and what news is offered in addition to 7 nanometers is not yet known. In addition to manufacturing technology, the only company that communicates that the architecture will support “next-generation memory technology” and become more “scalable”.

It is speculated that scalability is about AMD only developing one graphics circuit for Navi, where they have the ability to combine several of these in one capsule to get more performance. A solution the company already uses on the processor side with the server family Epyc and the enthusiast family Ryzen Threadripper, which combine several processor circuits to create processors with up to 32 cores.

It is worth mentioning that it has previously been said that Vega, in addition to 12 nanometers, will also be released at 7 nanometers. That Vega goes down to 7 nanometers has not been confirmed by AMD, but if it is true, it means either that Navi will not be released in 2018 or that the architectures are intended to live side by side.
