AMD launches Radeon R7 200 series

Today, AMD is rolling out most of the graphics cards in the Radeon 200 series, which completely replaces the almost two-year-old Radeon HD 7000 series. The menu includes not only the Radeon R9 280X and R9 270X, which have had to admit color in SweClocker’s test lab, but also price-squeezed models in AMD’s performance class R7.

Like the Radeon HD 7790, the Radeon R7 260X banner is based on the Bonaire graphics circuit, but will top the outgoing model with the help of pointed clock frequencies. The 896 stream processors clock at 1,100 MHz, which is an increase of 100 MHz or ten percent over the Radeon HD 7790.

Major changes are made to the graphics memory, which is clocked at 6,500 MHz and has an increased memory amount of 2 GB GDDR5 as standard. Another novelty is support Trueaudio, which will provide more realistic sound and precise positioning while relieving the processor. The changes include an increased TDP value of 115 watts.

The entry-level models Radeon R7 250 and R7 240 are based on the graphics circuit Öland, but for that matter are neither Swedish nor new. The Öland graphics circuit has previously been delivered in laptops under the alias Mars for the Radeon HD 8500M, HD 8600M and HD 8700M series. The graphics cards come with 384 and 320 stream processors respectively and are equipped with 1 GB GDDR5 or 2 GB DDR3.

The recommended sales prices for the Radeon R7 260X, R7 250 and R7 240 are estimated at around SEK 1,250, 850 and SEK 700, respectively, including VAT. The sales start will take place on October 11 together with R9 280X and R9 270X.
