AMD Radeon “Fiji” premieres at GDC

This year’s edition of Game Developer Conference is not only interesting for game crazy, but also clean smorgasbord for hardware crazy. Not only does Nvidia take the opportunity to present the upcoming flagship Geforce GTX Titan X, the competitor AMD also has the next generation Radeon in place.

However, the red team is much more discreet compared to Nvidia’s stage maneuvers. One of the machines to demonstrate the VR investment Liquid VR is reportedly powered by Tom’s Hardware by “the next generation Radeon for ultra-enthusiasts”.

Just to be clear, I saw a demonstration of Showdown running on the Oculus Rift Crescent Bay, being powered by an unannounced Radeon R9 flagship ultra-enthusiast product. Those words, in their exactness, were told to me officially, as in on the record, by AMD.

Although all forms of technical information are missing, it is probably the Fiji graphics processor. According to previous leaks, the next performance circuit from the AMD architecture will have GCN 1.3 and a total of 4,096 stream processors – up from 2,816 for the Radeon R9 290X. New will also be stacked memory of the HBM type and an ultra-wide memory bus for a bandwidth of 640 GB / s.

According to AMD, the combination of Liquid VR and the computing power of the upcoming Radeon lays the foundation for the next generation of virtual reality. The goal is higher performance than ever and further reduced latencies, something that helps both for empathy and against nausea.

The launch of AMD Fiji with associated graphics cards is expected to take place during the second quarter of the year, probably in connection with the electronics fair Computex 2015.
