Nvidia premieres Geforce GTX Titan X

At the launch of the performance models Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980, many guessed that the graphics processor GM204 is not the highlight of the Maxwell architecture, but that Nvidia is filing on an even more lavish model. After a myriad of rumors, Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang steals the spotlight at the Epic Games press conference during the GDC 2015 developer conference and presents the sequel to the Geforce GTX Titan.

The new graphics card is called Geforce GTX Titan X and contains no less than eight billion transistors and 12 GB of video memory. Earlier rumors say that the graphics processor is called GM200 and is probably accompanied by a 384-bit memory bus. Nvidia calls it the world’s most advanced graphics circuit.

In addition, no more detailed details about the graphics card are revealed, such as how many calculation units are to be expected. Rumors are circulating that there may be as many as 3,072 CUDA cores – 50 percent more than in the GM204 graphics processor for the Geforce GTX 980.

The graphics card shown at the Epic Games press conference is said to be the first copy in the world and some further details about when the model will be launched and what the price tag may land on is still a mystery. Given the predecessors in the Titan series, however, speculators will probably be prepared to shell out 10,000 kronor or more.
