AMD Radeon R9 290X “Hawaii XT” in pictures

During Wednesday night’s press conference in Hawaii, USA, AMD announces a new generation of graphics cards in the Radeon series. The choice of location coincides with the code name of the most lavish graphics processor in the series. The name to remember is the Radeon R9 290X “Hawaii XT”.

The slide show above shows one of the first copies of the new graphics card, but due to confidentiality agreements, the specifications will only be published at a later date. However, the pictures reveal several interesting news.

First and foremost, a redesigned radiator is noticeable, which is covered by a matte black plastic cover with red details. The fan is located at the rear edge and is surrounded by specially designed air ducts. Power supply is provided via 6 + 8-pin PCI Express connectors, which allows a maximum power output of 300 W.

In connection path, two DVIs are provided, HDMI and Displayport. The model in the picture, however, lacks the traditional pins used to connect several graphics cards in Crossfire. In this area, a bunch of soldering points can be seen instead.

Finally, it can be noted that the back of the circuit board is gossiping about no less than 16 memory circuits. It indicates either a 256 or 512 bit wide memory bus, where the latter is the most likely option for a graphics card in the upper performance class.
