AMD Radeon regains market share from Nvidia Geforce

Loss-heavy AMD lost ground on all fronts during the year, and during the summer figures from Mercury Research showed that the company had a historically low market share in the graphics card market during the second quarter of the year. A report now shows that the downward trend has reversed.

Market shares for AMD and Nvidia until Q2 2015.

The financial magazine Barron’s writes that AMD, with the help of the Radeon 300 series, managed to take back shares from Nvida during the year’s still ongoing third quarter. The greatest success is said to have been reaped in the price range of 200-400 dollars, which currently houses the Radeon R9 380, R9 390 and R9 390X. These are also expected to be joined shortly by the R9 380X.

However, the success is not reflected in the premium segment, where Nvidia dominates in the price range 500 dollars and up with Geforce GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. This despite the fact that AMD during the summer launched the new graphics circuit Fiji with associated graphics card models Radeon R9 Fury X, R9 Fury and R9 Fury .

That it is better for the Radeon 300 series, which consists of older, renamed graphics circuits, is explained by the fact that the supply of the Fiji graphics circuit is low, which is believed to be due to manufacturing difficulties. This has led to AMD simply not being able to sell any major volumes in the lucrative premium segment.

As the third quarter has not yet ended, it is too early to say how much AMD’s and Nvidia’s market shares have been affected, but figures for this can be expected to be found sometime in October.
