AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT performance test in trimmed version

With the architecture RDNA and the Navi family, AMD has now seriously aimed at the middle segment of graphics cards, where the Radeon RX 5500 XT made its debut towards the end of 2019. In the gap up to the RX 5700 there is room for another graphics card and the model will be the RX 5600 XT, unveiled at CES 2020.

The graphics card will be launched later in January, and at the CES unveiling, AMD shared specifications and the price tag, at a relatively modest $ 279. In terms of performance, the newcomer is said to put Nvidia’s year-old Geforce RTX 2060 in the firing line, a card that has long had a target price of 349 USD. The performance level is suggested by Nvidia themselves, which recently lowered the price to 299 USD.

Data suggests that AMD in turn counteracts the increase and this by gifting the Radeon RX 5600 XT with a new BIOS version before launch, which allows higher power budget, clock frequencies and memory frequencies. AMD has not released official information about this, but now performance figures from the performance test 3DMark prove that this will be the case.

It’s the reputable Twitter profile Tum apisak who has found the results in the database for UL Benchmark’s synthetic test suite, where the Radeon RX 5600 XT has been run in four tests. Specifically, it is a tested variant from Sapphire with an updated BIOS, which is compared with results from earlier this week. Exactly which graphics card the older numbers refer to is unknown, however, so the difference should be taken with a pinch of salt.

In the Time Spy test, the update means an increase in graphics points from 6,900 to 7,600 points, an increase of 10 percent. Fire Strike, Fire Strike Ultra and Fire Strike Extreme all come with an increase of about 11 percent – performance shots that are not unreasonably set against the changes reported.

For the Sapphire graphics card on which the data is based, elevated play and boost frequencies of 3 and 8 percent, respectively, can be seen, while the memory bandwidth will be as much as 17 percent higher. How much difference the changes make differs between areas of use, but the synthetic performance test gives an indication of what to expect.

There are many indications that the specifications will be increased by 21 January.

As mentioned, however, AMD has not revealed whether the Radeon RX 5600 XT is actually tuned before the launch, and how the card stands up to the Geforce RTX 2060 and other competitors remains to be seen. The launch will take place on January 21 and all models will be signed by AMD’s various partner manufacturers.
