AMD, Radeon RX 6000 refurbished with faster memory in the second quarter?

Following what has been done in the notebook field, AMD could refresh its desktop graphics card offering in the second quarter. The indiscretion comes from the East and for now there is talk of a possible update of the current GPU-based solutions Ships 21 and 22.

Today there are four models on the market based on those chips – Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6800 and RX 6700 XT. According to rumors, the new cards should follow the nomenclature adopted by AMD in the mobile field (eg Radeon RX 6850M XT) thus taking the names of Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6850, RX 6850 XT e RX 6750 XT.

How will they differ from the proposals already on the market? At the moment we speak simply of a GDDR6 memory improvement from 16 to 18 Gbps, while it is not known whether there will also be interventions on the stream processor front. Only the Radeon RX 6500 XT and the RX 6900 XT LC (liquid cooled) have 18 Gbps memory. Upgrading the memory alone may not have much of a performance impact.

Finally, the other possible novelty could concern the production process, with the passage from 7 to 6 nanometers to improve the overall efficiency of the cards and, on the production side, obtain more GPUs per wafer. However, it is currently only a hypothesis, we are waiting to find out more.
