The fact that there is a crying shortage of circuits does not prevent AMD and Nvidia from continuing to launch a battle stream of new graphics cards. During Computex 2021, the AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 6000M series for laptops, introducing the Navi 23 graphics circuit. This was followed by new Radeon Pro models with Navi 23, and now it’s time for the circuit to adopt desktops.
The name of the graphics card is not entirely unexpected Radeon RX 6600 XT and for the first time its reference design is captured on image. It follows the same color theme of black, white and silver with red accents, but the design itself differs. Instead of three or two fans, a single one is placed in the middle and the graphics card is also a small story, possibly with a length measurement of ITX size (170 mm).
The graphics expert Videocardz, who is behind the leak, also took the opportunity to manipulate the image and was thus able to get the Radeon RX 6600 XT equipped with an 8-pin connector. According to the ATX standard, this means a theoretical power supply of up to 225 W, while a 6-pin would mean up to 150 W. This can thus mean that the graphics card has a power consumption a bit above just 150 W.

The graphics circuit Navi 23 is equipped with a total of 32 computing units with 64 stream processors each, for a total of 2,048 pieces. According to previous information, these should have a turbo frequency of in this context graphics cards high 2,684 MHz, which places its theoretical performance just above AMD’s previous flagship Radeon RX 5700 XT.
On the memory front, a narrow 128-bit memory bus is noticeable, which is accompanied by GDDR6 memory and then probably with a capacity of 8 GB. Provided that the effective clock frequency remains the same as with previous graphics cards, this gives a theoretical bandwidth of 256 GB / s. The narrow memory bus is compensated by a so-called Infinity Cache of 32 MB.
Architecturally, the Navi 23 is the same as all previous Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, which means support for all DirectX 12 Ultimate features including ray tracing. A common and not particularly appreciated move on the part of AMD is that the number of PCI Express 4.0 channels is limited to 8 instead of the usual 16. This is usually motivated by the fact that AMD wants to keep power consumption down, but it is probably primarily a matter of keeping the circuit area down and thereby increasing margins.
With the Radeon RX 6600 XT, AMD focuses on gaming in 1,920 × 1,080 pixels and the model is expected to take up the fight against the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060, which has a recommended price of 329 USD, corresponding to just over SEK 3,500 including VAT. What price point AMD is planning for is not yet known, but a qualified guess is 299 USD or about 3,200 kronor.
When the launch of the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT will take place is not yet known.
