AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT in a few thousand copies to Europe

The graphics card launches over the past six months have been characterized by, to say the least, inadequate accessibility, to the extent that it has become almost impossible to get hold of one at all. Even budget models in the lower middle class fly off store shelves and in the second-hand market, several-year-old graphics cards are sold at premium prices that would normally be considered directly ridiculous.

Next in line to be launched is the Radeon RX 6700 XT, with which AMD promised “significantly more” graphics cards at launch. Many have wondered what that means and now the reputable Igor’s Lab can sit on the answer. After discussions with most partner manufacturers and distributors, only “a few thousand” Radeon RX 6700 XT is expected to be available in the EU.

The information about a limited number is confirmed when SweClockers talks to Swedish resellers. Although it is confirmed that AMD’s statement about more graphics cards at launch is correct, but that it is then compared to the releases of Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT. In other words, AMD’s statement may well be true, but like so much else, everything is relative.

When AMD launched the duo Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT, the allocation for the reference models was exactly 100 and 25 respectively to the major Nordic retailers. This was followed up a couple of weeks later by the flagship Radeon RX 6900 XT where the number of copies could be counted on one hand – for the whole of the Nordic region.

The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT will be launched on Thursday, March 18 at 15:00 at the recommended price of USD 479, corresponding to just over SEK 5,000 including VAT. According to AMD, the graphics card should offer better performance than the Geforce RTX 3070, whose recommended price tag is 499 USD. What the fictitious price level means in practice remains to be seen.
