RX 6800 XT Customs im Test: XFX Merc 319 vs. PowerColor Red Devil vs. Sapphire Nitro+

AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Custom-Designs Specs : Details| CPU Performance| Config | and other important features that will help you make better decision.

tl; dr: AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 XT is available from numerous manufacturers as a custom design, but which is the best? In the test, PowerColor Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil, Sapphire Radeon RX 6800 XT Nitro + and XFX Radeon RX 6800 XT Merc 319 face each other. All three take graphics cards with GPU from AMD to a whole new level.

PowerColor Red Dragon vs. Sapphire Nitro+ vs. XFX Merc 319

With the Radeon RX 6800 and Radeon RX 6800 XT (test) as well as the Radeon RX 6900 XT (test), AMD has graphics cards that are competitive with Nvidia’s high-end graphics cards, currently the GeForce RTX 3070, the GeForce RTX 3080 and the GeForce RTX 3090.

One factor that contributed to the positive overall impression is the reference design, which sets new standards, especially for the Radeon RX 6800 XT in the red warehouse. The graphics card is silent on the Windows desktop, quiet under load and the temperature development is still within limits. AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT und Radeon RX 6800 Specs

Three custom designs with RDNA 2 in comparison

In the past, it was relatively easy for board partners to beat AMD’s direct heat exhaust reference design with a radial fan. In this generation, however, it won’t be an easy undertaking. ComputerBase has already tested three models: PowerColor Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil, Sapphire Radeon RX 6800 XT Nitro + and XFX Radeon RX 6800 XT Merc 319.

Another topic in early 2021: availability

The availability of the Radeon RX 6000 series remains a nuisance in early 2021. Dealers demand horrific surcharges of several hundred euros, not only for goods that can be delivered, but in general. A Radeon RX 6800 XT, which is only 699 euros expensive according to AMD, is currently not available for less than 1,000 euros.

ComputerBase tests the custom designs available in the editorial office anyway, because how they perform is interesting regardless of the price. At the moment, we can only advise against buying a Radeon RX 6000 at the prices shown.

PowerColor Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil im Detail

PowerColor is sending the flagship model into the race with the Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil, while the Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Dragon can be found in stores for (officially) a few euros less. It lacks the unusual RGB lighting and relies on a cooler that is not quite as high. The cooling system on the Radeon RX 6800 Red Dragon (test) was convincing, although it is not as potent as that of the Red Devil.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT Red Devil is massive and very heavy at over 1.6 kg, PowerColor sends a lot of cooling material into the race. At 32 cm, the triple-slot cooler is around 5 cm longer than the actual PCB in order to offer more cooling surface and to blow the air through the heat sink unchecked.

The massive cooler is divided into two elements, which are connected to one another by means of 7 heat pipes (3 × 8 mm and 4 × 6 mm in diameter). The front cooler primarily cools the Navi-21 GPU, the GDDR6 memory and part of the power supply, the rear cooler is then responsible for 12 of the 19 voltage converter circuits.

Different sized fans with a good look and feel

The cooler is equipped with three axial fans, the two outer ones having a diameter of 100 mm and the middle one of 85 mm. These persist at temperatures of up to 52 degrees Celsius and are therefore silent. But not only the cooler looks powerful, the look and feel of the graphics card is overall high-quality and only drops a little due to a little plastic on the cooler cover.
