AMD Radeon “Tahiti” left in 2014

In early 2012, AMD introduced the first graphics card in the Radeon HD 7000 series, marking the start of the Southern Islands generation. The most expensive graphics processor goes by the code name Tahiti and was the first in the new series. It now appears that this will remain in place next year as well.

According to documents that SweClockers has read, Tahiti will continue to be part of AMD’s range at least until mid-2014, which is as far as current planning goes. The Tahiti graphics processor is used in the Radeon HD 7990, 7970, 7950 and 7870 XT, but may well appear in more models in the future.

In October, AMD launches a new generation of graphics cards in the Volcanic Islands family. The introduction is synchronized with Battlefield 4, which will be released at the end of the same month and where AMD is “exclusive hardware partner”. It is therefore conceivable that Tahiti will also be part of the next Radeon series.
