Sapphire Radeon HD 7990 Atomic with water cooling on the way to market

At Computex in early June, Sapphire showed off an early prototype of a water-cooled Radeon HD 7990. Some dismissed it as an odd audience freeer, but now it appears that the most lavish model will actually appear on the market in the not too distant future.

The graphics card is called Sapphire Radeon HD 7990 Atomic Edition and contains two Tahiti XT2 with a total of 6 GB of GDDR5 memory. This includes the PLX PEX8747 bridge with support for PCI Express 3.0, 12-layer circuit boards, a full 18-phase power supply, tantalum capacitors and three 8-pin PCI Express connectors. The latter allows a power output of sky-high 525 watts.

To take care of the heat development, a complete water cooling system with full-coverage blocks, a free-standing water tank and pump is included, as well as a 240 mm radiator with two 120 mm fans. This should provide plenty of room for increased clock frequencies.

According to Chinese Expreview, the Sapphire Radeon HD 7990 Atomic Edition will be on the market at the end of July. Some price information is not yet known, but considering that the model looks more lavish than the Asus Ares II, the price tag may very well cross the 10,000 kronor mark.
