AMD releases Radeon RX 5000 graphics cards for lower price ranges in October

In July, AMD launched its latest graphics architecture Radeon DNA (RDNA), which became the first major new since Graphics Core Next (GCN) to see the light of day at the end of 2011. First out was the duo Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 for the upper the middle class, which will soon be followed by lower priced models.

Now PCGamesN reports that two new graphics circuits in the Navi family are imminent. The information comes from AMD’s Marek Olsak, who submitted a PCI ID extension for the graphics framework Mesa 19.2 for Linux drivers. The addition of the new PCI ID device in question concerns the “Navi 12” circuit and is described as “easy and urgent” to include.

The same person from AMD made a similar addition to “Navi 14” at the end of August, but without a description that it would be urgent. The fact that the addition of Navi 12 is urgent indicates that the launch is imminent, which may also be the case for Navi 14, which is already included in Mesa 19.2.

It is currently not known exactly which segments the graphics circuits Navi 12 and Navi 14 are intended for. Previous information suggests, however, that Navi 14 is equipped with 24 computing units or 1,536 stream processors, which can be compared with 40 and 2,560, respectively, for the first Navi that lacks a numerical suffix. One thing that can be considered safe, however, is the manufacturing technology 7 nanometers from TSMC.

As for the Navi 12, most evaluators believe that it is an even smaller graphics circuit. If so, it is probably a solution to be used in a hypothetical Radeon RX 5500 series. In such cases, the medium-sized Navi 14 should be included in a Radeon RX 5600 series.

AMD Navi 14 is believed to be a replacement for the Polaris 20 and Polaris 30 graphics circuits used in the Radeon RX 570, RX 580 and RX 590. If so, the supposedly smaller Navi 12 circuit would step in as a replacement for the Polaris 21 (Baffin) and Lexa, used for the Radeon RX 560 and RX 550 respectively.

Compared to the competitor Nvidia, the graphics card family Navi can in a smaller version aim at the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti and down. As a counter to this, Nvidia is expected to launch the Geforce GTX 1650 Ti, which with the full-scale graphics circuit TU117 will have 1,024 CUDA cores instead of the 896 pieces in today’s GTX 1650.
