AMD Tenerife – over 20 percent better performance with Graphics Core Next 2.0

New rumors claim that AMD is not only working on rolling out more graphics cards in the Radeon HD 7000 series but is also preparing the next version of the Graphics Core Next architecture. Chinese Xfastest publishes an image that is said to present the graphics card “Tenerife” with nothing less than GCN 2.0.

According to the image, AMD Tenerife is an upcoming flagship that will provide over 20 percent better performance than the Radeon HD 7970. The estimated computing power is set at a full 4.50 TFLOPS, compared to about 3.8 TFLOPS with the current performance king.

Otherwise, the specifications remain on 3 GB GDDR5 memory with 384-bit memory bus, support for up to six screens simultaneously and a power consumption at rest of only 3 W. As always, however, it is important to take unconfirmed rumors with a good pinch of salt.
