AMD’s response to Geforce Maxwell is delayed until 2015

In mid-September, Nvidia launched the first graphics cards with Maxwell architecture in the performance class. Geforce GTX 980 and GTX 970 were received with standing ovations, not least thanks to the combination of high performance and low power consumption. At the same time, the graphics cards are very competitively priced.

The successful launch seems to have surprised AMD. According to Chinese VR-Zone, it now does not look like there will be any new graphics processors from the red team until after the turn of the year. This also applies to the expected Radeon R9 285X “Tonga XT”, which was probably put on the shelf.

Instead, AMD is looking ahead to the upcoming Pirate Islands family and the transition from 28 to 20 nanometer technology, which is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2015 at the earliest. respectively the 390 series.

Some more detailed details are not yet known, but AMD is believed to aim to update the video outputs to HDMI 2.0 and Displayport 1.3. These are specifically designed for 4K resolution and will be introduced in new screens during the winter months.
