American retailers apply price increases to scare away miners

The year 2017 has marked the return of the mining of digital cryptocurrencies on a broad front worldwide, with a particular focus on Ethereum. Among other things, this has led to both AMD and Nvidia not being able to meet demand, with a number of empty-handed customers as a result.

In an attempt to counter the massive demand from miners, the American retailer Microcenter now applies a substantial mark-up for orders consisting of three or more graphics cards. The mark-up is $ 10,000 and applies to graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia.

The background to the negative view of miners from both retailers and graphics card manufacturers lies in the fact that they do not enter the surrounding ecosystem. In the long term, this means a lower income for both parties, as those who buy graphics processors for mining cryptocurrencies do not buy products in other segments.
