Asus presents the hybrid-cooled Geforce GTX 980 Poseidon

After the launch of Nvidia Maxwell in the performance class, the partner manufacturers’ special models follow, where the most lavish variants are usually saved in the end. Asus is still in the starting blocks and has so far only started with the model series Strix DC2. It is now revealed that the next graphics card is part of nothing less than the hybrid-cooled Poseidon family.

With water cooling, ROG Poseidon GTX 980 achieves up to 27°C lower running temperatures than reference designs. With air cooling, ROG Poseidon GTX 980 achieves running temperatures that are up to 15°C cooler than reference.

The newcomer is called Asus ROG Poseidon GTX 980 and in the center is the hybrid cooler DirectCU H2O, which works with traditional air cooling and can also be connected to an existing water cooling system. This is because the circuit board is covered by a steam chamber with integrated water block in combination with flanges, heat pipes and two “dustproof” fans.

As usual, the GM204 graphics processor with 2,048 CUDA cores and 4 GB of memory is used on a 256-bit memory bus. Asus raises boostfrequency a bit to 1 279 MHz, but leaves the other clock frequencies untouched. For those who want higher than that, however, extra lavish power supply is provided according to the concepts Digi + VRM and Super Alloy Power.

The Asus ROG Poseidon GTX 980 takes up a total of two slots and connects to PCI Express 3.0 x16. Power is supplied via 8 + 6-pin PCI-E connectors and there are video outputs for DVI, HDMI and three Displayports. The sales start will take place in early December, but pricing is still unknown.
