Asus registers Geforce GTX 1660 Ti card with 3 GB of graphics memory

In recent months, the information about Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 1660 Ti has been hailed, where product images and various specifications have recently been found on the web. Like the recent Geforce RTX 2000 series, the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti is equipped with a Turing-based graphics circuit, but as the prefix “GTX” suggests, there is a lack of hardware for e.g. ray tracing in real time.

Well-reputed Asus has now registered several models of the said graphics card with the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU). A total of 20 variants are listed distributed over series such as Dual, Phoenix and ROG Strix, where the product names contain information regarding the amount of memory. According to previous information, 6 GB of memory applies to just over half of the cards, but for nine of them 3 GB is listed.

The information is reminiscent of the approach of the Geforce GTX 1060, which was initially released with the GP106 full-scale circuit and 6 GB of GDDR5 memory. A few months later, a cheaper model was launched with halved memory and a slightly scaled-down graphics circuit. Whether the same treatment awaits for the 3 GB variants of the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti remains to be seen.

The listing of the new variants does not have to mean that they become a reality either. At the end of 2018, the manufacturer Gigabyte registered six different memory configurations for Geforce RTX 2060, where both GDDR5 and GDDR6 memory in different amounts were on the menu. So far, however, only cards with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory have been unveiled.

The Geforce GTX 1660 Ti is said to be launched on February 22, but Nvidia has not presented any official information about the product or its release date. In terms of price, there is talk of 279 USD, corresponding to SEK 3,200 including VAT. This can be compared with the recommended price for Geforce RTX 2060, which is SEK 3,999 for models from both partner manufacturers and Nvidia.
