Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X Platinum is leaking online

Just over a week ago, AMD announced a series of new graphics cards in the Radeon 200 family, which will replace the existing 7000 series models during the autumn and winter. Since then, more details have been leaked online, including photos of a Radeon R9 280X from XFX. Now it’s time for the Asus ROG Matrix R9 280X Platinum to pose in front of the camera.

Videocardz reveals the details behind Asus’ new graphics card, which is in many ways identical to the current ROG Matrix HD 7970. It is thus the same DirectCU II cooler with five heat pipes of eight millimeters, where two fans in 100 millimeters account for the air flow.

The circuit board shows 20-phase digital voltage control, measuring points for multimeters and dual firmware. Power is provided via two 8-pin PCI Express connectors and video connections in the form of two DVI and four Displayports are provided on the back.

Radeon R9 280X is based on the graphics processor Tahiti XTL and is thus very similar to the current Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. According to the same source, the circuit will contain 2,048 stream processors, which in the case of Asus are clocked at 1,100 MHz. This includes 3 GB of GDDR5 memory at 6,000 MHz on a 384-bit memory bus.

It is not yet known when the Radeon R9 280X will appear on the market, but according to previous information, the graphics card will appear as early as next week. The target price for the reference model is 299 dollars, corresponding to approximately SEK 2,400 including VAT.
