AMD Radeon R9 290X i prestandatest

After the specifications, technical details and a thorough review of the Radeon R9 290X leaked online, not many details remain. Now the last and most important piece of the puzzle is put in place when the new flagship is performance tested by the Chinese website Pconline.

In the now old performance test 3DMark 11, the newcomer ends up a bit behind the Geforce GTX Titan and performs on par with a GTX 780, while the situation is the reverse in the more modern 3DMark Fire Strike. The same mixed compote of results can also be seen in the game-oriented tests.

AMD’s Radeon R9 290X passes a Geforce GTX Titan in Metro: Last Light and Sleeping Dogs, but loses ground in Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. In other game tests, the two flagships perform relatively evenly, with a marginal advantage for Geforce GTX Titan.

The figures for power consumption and temperatures show a less positive side of the Radeon R9 290X. It is worth noting that the results are taken from Furmark, a test that exposes the graphics cards to unrealistic loads and which both AMD and Nvidia restrict to varying degrees. The results should therefore be taken with a large pinch of salt.

It is not yet known when the Radeon R9 290X will be on the market. However, there is much to suggest a sales start in connection with the launch of Battlefield 4, which will be released on October 29 in North America.
