BarraCuda SSD, or Seagate’s attempt to conquer the market

BarraCuda SDD

Seagate isn’t just about HDDs… at least until now. The manufacturer has just announced full-fledged BarraCuda SSD internal media. Will a well-known name and logo guarantee success on the market?

We will wait for this question, because the BarraCuda SSD will go on sale on July 16 during Amazon Prime Day. We are talking here about standard 2.5 inch solid state drives with a thickness of 7 millimeters for the SATA III interface. It will be available in four capacity variants (250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB) with standard speeds. We are talking about 540 MB / s sequential reading and 520 MB / s sequential write. Apparently, it will also have a special module that will accelerate the speed to 560 MB / s and 90,000 IOPS operations. All of this is packed in a simple black casing (probably made of plastic).

However, the MTBF endurance of 1.8 million hours and the TBW index, which in the case of 2 TB is 1092 TB of record, is different from each capacitive version. In addition, Seagate provides its customers with a 5-year warranty and 24/7 technical support. For the 250, 500 and 1000 GB version, we will have to pay: $ 79.99, $ 129.99 and $ 249.99 respectively – the price of the largest medium has not been disclosed. Currently, you can count on a small promotion on Amazon, but if you want to buy these carriers in Poland, you will have to wait until September.
