Beijing’s tax office officially announced on March 2 that it will begin implementing blockchain technology in the city’s billing system.
Local authorities hope that billing on the blockchain will bring more transparency for taxpayers. Beijing intends to bring transparency, traceability and immutability unique blockchain in the governance system:
“To reduce the operating costs of taxpayers, save social resources, increase the convenience of consumers to keep invoices and build a healthy and fair fiscal environment […] The Beijing tax office has decided to implement a pilot project to generate electronic invoices on the blockchain. ”
Consumers are encouraged to verify the authenticity of the information on the invoice using the unique identification codes on the official website of the tax office or on the authorized Ruihong site.
“The information recorded in the electronic invoices must be in accordance with the results obtained on the site […] Consumers have the right to reject electronic invoices and can call the assistance number of the tax service 12366 if they identify discrepancies ”.
Blockchain technology in the invoice system
The plan is to extend blockchain billing services to the entire city. To begin with, it will be applied for residential parking fees. Also, access tickets at tourist attractions and public parks will be included in the pilot project.
China is making an effort to implement blockchain technology in local administration systems. At the end of last year, a similar initiative was implemented in Shenzhen, considered the country’s technological capital.
More than 7,600 companies in Shenzhen have used the blockchain system. This year, bills totaling over 7 billion yuan (about $ 995 million) were issued.
