Yesterday, the South Chinese Morning Post wrote that the Filipino boxer, politician and singer Pacquiao is launching his own token. He does this with the financial support of private investors such as former Liverpool and England football star Michael Owen and Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi.

The idea is that with the Pac token you can easily buy merchandise, the token is also intended as a way to communicate with the boxer. The founder and CEO of GCOX Jeffrey Lin claims that the token is not only meant to raise money, but also to build a token ecosystem. Nice and clear. You will find the following explanation on the Pac token website:
- Fans can bid on a signed Manny Pacquiao glove or on an exclusive VIP boxing chair for a boxing match using PAC tokens.
- Fans can don Pac tokens to the various philanthropic missions of Manny Pacquiao.
- And what these have to do with blockchain or tokens, no idea. But Manny Pacquiao shares his personal success stories and sends personalized videos to fans.
More celebrities are planning to launch crypto tokens with GCOX
GCOX seems to be the crypto platform where celebrities can spend their crypto on. The American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo, for example, is also planning to launch his own token on the platform.
Evan Ngow from GCOX said at the time: “We are committed to bringing together a varied, multi-talented range of stars at GCOX, and Jason will certainly not be the last musician to join us.”
That also seems to be one of the goals of GCOX, binding celebrities to their platform. The white paper states that the technology is based on the Acclaim blockchain and is designed to help the career of celebrities.
