Last month, Brave web browser was the most downloaded web browser in Japan. The statistics come from AppBrain, a website that maintains Android app rankings. Brave is a crypto browser
Brave comes from the case of Brendan Eich, co-founder of Mozilla and founder of JavaScript. The browser has been around since 2015 and has since been downloaded more than 30 million times for desktop and mobile. But what makes this browser different from the rest? Their own cryptocurrency Basic Attention Token (BAT) is completely intertwined with the browser. That was not the case in the beginning, but in June 2017 the ether-based token was introduced to the platform by an ICO. Brave raised no less than $ 35 million through the sale of 1 billion tokens.
The browser rewards users with BAT tokens if they choose to look at advertisements. By default, the browser is set up so that you have the least possible inconvenience with trackers, cookies and advertisements. You can also earn BAT from the Brave browser by publishing content. You can link your YouTube account or blogs to the rewards system to earn BAT. Browser users can then choose to reward content creators by tipping (tipping) them.
Built-in wallet
Brave has also announced that the browser will have a native cryptowallet in the future. You would think that the crypto community would receive this with open arms, but Brendan Eich did get some criticism. This is because KYC (registration with personal data) is required to use the wallet. Eich defended himself by saying that he does not want to give malicious parties access to the wallet.
Brave downloaded more often than Firefox and Opera
According to AppBrain, Brave Browser surpassed the ever-popular Firefox, which was downloaded 553 thousand times. Competitor Opera also has to suffer. Opera has been downloaded 1 million times, but that is a decrease of fifty percent compared to the previous month. However, Brave still pales in comparison with Google’s Chrome browser, which holds more than 60 percent of the market share of mobile browsers worldwide. But that is supplied as standard and installed on Android phones.
Is this a reason to invest in BAT? We do not, of course, advise on this. Do your own research. The fact is that the value of BAT has fallen sharply since April. At the end of April, BAT was worth 46 cents. Currently only 17 cents. Nevertheless, analysts remain enthusiastic about the coin. This also applies to the well-known YouTuber DataDash.
