Brazil bans Apple from selling smartphones without a charger
MOSCOW, September 6 — PRIME. Brazilian authorities have banned Apple from selling the iPhone without a charger in the country, Reuters reported, citing a government publication.
Apple in 2020 refused to sell smartphones with an adapter to reduce carbon dioxide emissions – the charger was no longer included in the iPhone 12 kit. However, according to Reuters, the Brazilian authorities believe that there is no evidence of environmental benefits of this practice.
The Ministry of Justice fined Apple 12.275 million reais ($2.38 million) and ordered it to cancel the sale of iPhone 12 and newer models, as well as suspend the sale of all iPhone models that do not come with chargers.
It is emphasized that the Brazilian authorities considers the sale of the iPhone without a charger in the kit “a deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers.”
