China Fenghua GPU aims to compete with GeForce RTX 3060

Chinese company Xindong / Innosilicon introduced its Fenghua 1 (Fantasy 1) graphics card in mid-November and released performance specifications today. While the Fenghua 1 cannot compete with the most powerful offerings, it aims to provide modern mid-range performance GPUs to compete with AMD and Nvidia.

The card is based on the architecture PowerVR de Imagination Technologies, with access to the most popular APIs on the market, such as DirectX, Vulkan, OpenGL, OpenCL, OpenGL ES, Caffe 1.0, TensorFlow 1.1.2 y ONNX. Being a PowerVR-based GPU, it comes with software stacks for Android, Linux, and Windows.

The Fantasy 1 comes with one or two chips, the former has a computing performance of about 5 TFLOPS FP32 for graphics and 25 INT8 TOPS for AI / ML, which is comparable to the performance of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU with the possibility of equipping 4GB / 8GB / 16GB of GDDR6 or GDDR6X memory. The consumption is around 50W, notably lower than that of the Nvidia GPU which is 160W.

The two-chip doubles this figure with an FP32 compute throughput of approximately 10 FP32 TFLOPS and 50 INT8 TOPS for IA / ML. Offering performance similar to that of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 8GB / 16GB / 32GB memory configurations.

The dual-chip has similar performance to an RTX 3060

The card comes with a PCI-Express 4.0 interface, and DisplayPort 1.4 + HDMI 2.1 video outputs.

Keep in mind that those figures represent theoretical computing performance and, as we’ve seen from AMD and Nvidia in the past, a dual-GPU designs can double the power and create a host of other hurdles when it comes to time graphics processing. real. Let’s not even talk about the Drivers, that if they are not kept up to date we will have problems with most of the newly released games.

For now, it is not known when these GPUs will be commercially available. In addition to availability and performance, we would also need to know the prices to determine if they can compete with AMD, Nvidia and Intel Arc.
