Converting from WOFF to TTF / OTF format

Web Open Font Format or simply WOFF is a web font that acts as a wrapper for a TTF (True Type) or OTF (Open Type) font format. WOFF is a compressed version that is compatible with many browsers. Instead of using conventional web fonts, web developers can use custom fonts. Nowadays, all browsers are accepting the WOFF format with recent versions. This format also supports font licensing information.

Many users want to use custom WOFF fonts downloaded from the Internet in their work with Microsoft Word or other programs. But, we need to convert WOFF format to TFF or OTF format to use on Windows system. This article walks you through the different techniques with which you can easily convert WOFF format to TTF / OTF format.

Ways to convert WOFF to TTF / OTF

Online converters

You can find everything on the internet these days, be it an image converter or a font converter. There are a lot of websites that can convert the font formats you want to. So you can use any of the well-known websites to convert WOFF font to TTF / OTF font. Here, I am going to tell you about three commonly used websites for this purpose.

1. Convertio website

Step 1: open the web browser.

Step 2: Navigate to the official Convertio website using Convertio-login.

Step 3: Then click Select files and find the WOFF file you want to convert.

Step 4: Once the file is selected, click Opened.

Step 5: Make sure to select the” for” option like TTF. now click on Turn into.

Step 6: The converted TTF file is now available. You can descargar and save it to your system.

2. Aspose website

Step 1: Open the browser and go to the website using Aspose.

Step 2: Choose the font file, select Save As In TTF and click Turn into.

There are many more websites where you can convert WOFF to TFF / OTF format. Everythingfonts is one of them, you can visit the site by clicking Everythingfonts.

Font Forge

Font Forge is simply font editing software. This is open source software freely available on the Internet. Let’s see how we can use this to convert WOFF to TTF / OTF format. Please follow the steps below.

Step 2: Now, open the WOFF font file want to change (Go through the path), and click it’s okay.

Step 3: Then a window opens, click File> Generate Fonts.

Step 4: select the Open type (CFF) and click generate.

NOTE: You can also choose the type of text. Here in this example I have selected OTF as it offers a smaller file size than TTF format.

Step 5: If you get an error message stating that the file should be resized. The message is shown below.

Follow the steps below to change the file size.

1.Click Item> Font Information.

2.Now, click generate tab, change the font size as needed.

Step 6: Once the error has been corrected, go back to File> Generate Fonts and click generate. Conversion takes place.

Step 7: The converted OTF / TTF font file is saved in the same folder as the original WOFF file.

To use the converted font style in your Word document or in any program, you must install it. To do this, follow the steps below.

Paso 1: The right button of the mouse in the generated font file and select Install on pc.

Step 2: Open a Word document to see the new font style in the Fonts Menu.

In this way, you can use whatever WOFF font you want and convert it to TTF / OTF format using FontForge.

Python script

If the above methods don’t work for you, either online conversion or using FontForge software, use Python Script for converting from WOFF to TTF / OTF formats. Python script was taken from GitHub. Follow the steps below to use this script to convert WOFF files to TTF / OTF.

NOTE: make sure you have Pyhton installed on your system.
