Corsair unveils a 16 GB memory kit with a frequency of 5000 MHz

Corsair has updated its site by inserting a new 16GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 memory kit (8GB x 2) with a frequency of well 5000 MHz thanks to the XMP 2.0 profile. The kit in question is called CMK16GX4M2Z5000C18 and on the US site is priced at About $ 1225.

The kit is also available on the company's Italian website, but at the moment it is not accompanied by the price. As the abbreviation suggests, the modules work with CAS Latency 18 (18-26-26-46) and require an operating voltage of 1.5V. Basically the modules work at 2666 MHz with an operating voltage of 1.2 V and timing SPD 18-18-18-43.

Like the other products in the Vengeance LPX line, these modules have a pure aluminum heat sink for faster chip cooling. We currently don't know what type of chips are under the heat spreader, but Corsair ensures that each chip has been selected individually to ensure peak performance.

Other companies are also working on 5 GHz kits, such as Gigabyte. The der8auer overclocker recently tested that kit on an X570 platform without detecting major problems, but once again highlighting how the most balanced memory kit for a Ryzen CPU platform is a DDR4-3600 / 3800 CL16 solution.

The design of the new Ryzen 3000 in fact ensures that the best performance is obtained around 3733 MHz, the frequency within which the memory clock and that of the Infinity Fabric interconnection work in sync. Beyond that frequency, the two parameters work with a 2: 1 ratio and this impacts performance because latencies increase (a penalty of 8 – 12 nanoseconds according to the experience of der8auer).
