Czech justice minister says revolution threatens European Union

MOSCOW, 27 Aug – PRIME. The galloping rise in energy prices in Europe threatens the existence of the European Union and endangers the political system of the Czech Republic, Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek told iDNES.cz.

In his opinion, there has not been a more dramatic situation in the socio-political sphere than now in Europe since 1989, and he is sure that “if the government does not solve the energy crisis, it will not remain in power for a long time.”

“If a solution is not found at the European level, then the European Union as such will be under threat,” the minister said and warned of the threat of revolution.

Earlier it became known that the Czech Republic, presiding until the end of the year in the EU Council, convenes an urgent meeting of EU energy ministers to discuss measures to resolve the situation in the energy sector. In addition, in the country, due to a sharp jump in electricity and gas prices, the demand for fireplaces has increased tenfold compared to last summer. At the same time, the demand for firewood, as well as their prices, is growing very rapidly. According to the Czech Statistical Office, the price of electricity rose by 33.6% year-on-year in July, and that of gas by 59.8%.
