The mid-2000s until the new decade were eventful. ATI would become part of a processor giant and Nvidia would have time to launch both the company’s biggest slippage and one of its most distinguished graphics card families ever. This era also saw a transition from widely differing PC and console camps to a more common technical platform.
During this time period, the graphics card market also began to shift from using specialized graphics functions for various purposes to increasingly generalizing the graphics cards’ hardware resources. This would change game development on both the PC side and for the console market.
