Der Spiegel reports rising protest sentiment in Italy

MOSCOW, 10 Sep — PRIME. There is growing discontent in Italy over rising electricity prices. Against this background, the Italian opposition is increasingly calling for the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions in the run-up to the elections on September 25, writes Der Spiegel.

The magazine reports that in connection with the triple rise in electricity prices, the Italian public is increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of the authorities.

Many food service establishments in the country have begun displaying their energy bills in storefronts, as well as saving electricity by working by candlelight.

However, in Naples and Perugia, small businesses and the unemployed began defiantly burning their accounts in protest.

At the same time, Matteo Salvini, the leader of the Italian oppositional League of the North party, called for the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, calling them ineffective, and called for a radical change in Italy’s position.
