Emsisoft Releases WannaCryFake Virus Removal Tool

Emsisoft, a software development company, has released the WannaCryFake ransomware virus utility.

WannaCryFake is a modification of the acclaimed WannaCry virus, which appeared back in 2017. The virus encrypts files on users’ computers using the AES-256 algorithm, after which it requires a ransom in bitcoins.

“You will have to pay for the decryption. We accept bitcoins, and the price depends on how quickly you contact us. After payment, we will send a program to decrypt your files, ”the virus victims receive such a message.

Using the utility, users can get rid of the malicious program and decrypt important files without paying a ransom. For this tool requires two copies of files – encrypted and original.

Emsisoft Decryptor compares them and calculates the key needed for decryption. It is important that the file names are unchanged, since the algorithm for calculating the key also depends on this parameter.

At the end of August, McAfee antivirus company reported that for the 1st quarter of 2019, the number of malware installations for cryptocurrency mining increased by 29% compared to the previous quarter.
