EVGA replaces graphics cards destroyed by Amazon’s New World

In connection with Amazon’s new game New World launching its closed beta test last week, users reported that the game apparently removes graphics cards on assembly lines. Those who appear to be most affected are still users of the Geforce RTX 3090 from EVGA’s FTW3 series, but the problem has affected graphics cards from other manufacturers and partner manufacturers.

However, EVGA is already in the process of sending out new graphics cards to the users who reported the error to customer service. This is what Jayztwocents says, who should have received the information from those responsible for EVGA’s customer service. The information is also confirmed by users in EVGA’s support forums who have received replacement products.

A large proportion of affected users state that they have experienced the problem in the game’s menus. One theory is that graphics cards break due to power spikes and heat issues, as the menu allows them to render an unlimited number of frames per second. Amazon has released an update that limits the frame rate, but the error can still be recreated, something Jayztwocents has addressed. In a video on Youtube, he tests several different graphics cards and gets problems on several models.

Specifically, as EVGA’s Geforce RTX 3090 FTW3 accounts for a larger proportion of the affected graphics cards, there is speculation as to whether this is actually an underlying hardware failure, where the game is only a triggering factor. According to Jayztwocents, this is not the case, but he is instead sure that the problem is related to how the game is rendered. During the test, however, he notes that EVGA’s RTX 3090 exceeds its limit for permissible power consumption by more than 20 percent and emits disturbing noise.

As the New Worlds beta is a closed session, Amazon does not legally have to take any responsibility for the destroyed graphics cards. The game’s user agreement contains points where the user agrees that Amazon disclaims responsibility for any hardware errors and that all use is at your own risk. Even if EVGA decides to replace the affected models, it is not necessarily certain that other manufacturers will act in the same way. It is therefore still recommended to take some caution before the problem is properly clarified, for example by setting the frame rate limits yourself using the graphics card software.

Do you think the game is the problem, or is it still leaning towards hardware failure? Or maybe both?
