Facebook may use third-party stablecoins for Libra project

As Calibra CEO David Marcus said, Libra can use various third-party stablecoins tied to fiat currencies instead of its own coin.

He emphasized that the main goal of the project is to create a more efficient payment system. Libra may well use not its own token, tied to a basket of fiat currencies and goods, but third-party stablecoins.

“Instead of launching a synthetic unit, we can use a group of stablecoins, for example, pegged to the dollar, euro or British pound. We can go this way and use stablecoins representing national currencies in digital form. This is one of the opportunities that needs to be considered, ”said Marcus.

At the same time, the CEO of Calibra noted that initially such a decision did not attract the Association members too much, however, the growing pressure from regulators could make the project choose this path.

Recall that recently PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, eBay, Mercado Pago and Booking left the Libra project, but Marcus emphasized that this will not affect the development plans of the project.
