MOSCOW, 19 Sep — PRIME. Hungary clarified the details of the state firewood program, according to which all residents of the country are given the opportunity to directly purchase up to ten cubic meters of firewood at reduced prices, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture said.

It is envisaged that the price of hardwoods will be 30 thousand forints (75 dollars) per cubic meter of firewood, the price of softwoods and conifers – 19 thousand forints (47.5 dollars) per cubic meter.

Earlier, the Hungarian authorities eased the restrictions on logging until the end of March 2023 due to the energy crisis in Europe. “Green” organizations and opposition parties have criticized this initiative, fearing that it will negatively affect the environment. Two protests took place in Budapest against the easing of restrictions on logging. Hungarian Minister of Agriculture István Nagy called the campaign “slanderous”. In early September, the head of the administration of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Guiyash, announced the launch of a wood-burning program.
