Futuremark presents “Time Spy” performance test for DirectX 12

With new graphics interfaces comes more graphic possibilities. DirectX 12 offers a number of fresh features in the form of more drawing calls, optimized thread handling and greater control over the rendering process. This in turn requires updated tools to be able to fairly assess the performance of graphics cards.

Futuremark’s solution to the problem is called Time Spy and was presented in connection with the overclocking competition “Galax GOC”. The software is a new part of the already existing and immensely popular 3DMark program, specially built to take advantage of features in DirectX 12.

The program is divided into three different tests – two designed for graphical performance and a third intended for physics calculation. Like previous products from Futuremark, Time Spy will also include a rolling demo mode with music and additional sequences.

In a short comment, Futuremark explains that Time Spy shows around five times more graphic content at the same time compared to the previous performance test Fire Strike. Aim to take advantage of the improved support for drawing calls which is one of the most important components of the new DirectX 12.

Futuremark promises more information about the Time Spy test at the beginning of next year. Then hopefully more concrete information about an upcoming launch awaits.
