Geforce GTX 980 Ti arrives after the summer

It’s no big deal that the Geforce GTX Titan X will not be the only gaming model with the newly launched teddy bear circuit GM200. A little over six months after Nvidia launched the original Titan, graphics cards were followed by the slightly scaled-down Geforce GTX 780 Ti. Now it looks like this pattern will also be repeated in the Maxwell generation.

According to sources at SweClockers, Nvidia plans to crown the 900 series with the new flagship Geforce GTX 980 Ti. Not all specifications have been determined yet, but according to preliminary data, this is not a scaled-down variant of the GM200 but a new model with all 3,072 CUDA cores intact.

Not entirely unexpectedly, however, Nvidia chooses to halve the amount of memory from 12 to 6 GB of GDDR5. There will be some compensation that the graphics processor’s clock frequency is increased by about 10 percent to around 1,100 and 1,200 MHz at base respective boost. Overall, however, it seems to suggest that the Geforce GTX 980 Ti is not adapted for quite as extreme resolutions as the Titan X.

The launch of the Geforce GTX 980 Ti is expected to take place in late summer. According to the current schedule, the introduction will take place in September, but as usual, this may well change.
