“German diplomats giggled”: Trump’s prophecy about Europe was remembered in the USA
MOSCOW, August 31 – PRIME. Former President of the United States Donald Trump, during his speech at the UN in 2018, announced the strong dependence of European countries on energy exports from Russia. This was recalled by journalist Rod Dreher in his article in The American Conservative.
“Do you remember how the German diplomats at the UN giggled when President Trump warned them that they would regret being so dependent on Russian oil and gas?” the author asked.
In his opinion, European leaders have put the economy of their continent on the brink of collapse. This is worth waiting for in the winter, at the height of the heating season. The observer believes that the White House was pushing the EU countries to take a tough stance towards Russia.
“We are ruled by fools who prefer sunny ideological dreams to cold reality… the kind that will hit European homes and businesses hard by January,” Dreher summed up.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries began to impose sanctions against Russia, in particular, on the purchase of energy resources. This led to a new round of rising energy prices in the region and a reduction in the supply of raw materials to the EU countries.
