Germany demanded to dismantle Nord Stream 2

BERLIN, Sep 2 – PRIME. Germany’s liberal party, the FDP, has demanded the dismantling of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the German agency dpa reports, citing a document that came into its possession.

Gas supplies via Nord Stream will resume from September 3

“As free democrats, we demand the dismantling of Nord Stream 2, as well as the speedy development of the concept of legal, technical and environmental guarantees,” the text says.

The publication emphasizes that the parliamentary group seeks to stop the import of Russian and Belarusian raw materials, including energy carriers, as soon as possible.

Representatives of the FDP consider the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines to be a “geopolitical project of the Kremlin” aimed at isolating Ukraine. “That is why, in particular, the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline caused significant discontent and led to the diplomatic isolation of Germany,” the resolution to the document says.

The construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, stretching to Germany through the Baltic Sea, was completed in September 2021. Its operator is Nord Stream 2 AG, and the sole shareholder is Gazprom.

The pipe, whose maximum capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year, was filled with technical gas and fully prepared for the start of pumping. However, the certification of the project was frozen by the German regulator.
