Greece has reduced gas consumption in recent months

MOSCOW, September 9 — PRIME. Greece has cut its gas consumption by more than 14% in recent months, Greek Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said.

Annual inflation in Greece slowed down in August

“We reduced gas consumption in June by about 20%, in July by about 14% and in August by about 14.7%. We are striving to achieve the goal of reducing gas consumption by 15%,” he said during a meeting of the Council of Energy Ministers EU.

Skrekas noted that the introduction of new renewable energy sources contributed to this result.

“We will introduce more than 1,700 megawatts of additional photovoltaic and wind power plants this year. We have also increased the extraction of lignite (lignite) and the production of electricity from lignite by about 100%. This year we expect lignites to take 20% of electricity generation instead of 10%. And we are also ready to transfer five power plants from natural gas to oil products,” the head of the Greek Ministry of Energy stressed.

In addition, he noted the doubling of the LNG storage capacity at the Revituse station.

Earlier on Friday, Skrekas, in a message to the Economist conference in Thessaloniki, said that Greece was storing 1 TWh of gas in Italy.
