High clock frequencies in leaked specifications for AMD Radeon RX 6000

Recently, specifications for AMD’s upcoming graphics card series Radeon RX 6000 found out on the web through Reddit user stblr. The same users are now updating the previous tables with new specifications for the graphics circuits that make up the Navi 2X family, where Navi 21 “Big Navi” and Navi 22 are among the most interesting in the near future.

* The data covers a wide range of product segments where the Navi 10 graphics circuit is used.

Existing data on the upcoming graphics card series include solid specifications for the Navi 21, which doubles the number of computing units (CU) to 80 set against 40 in the current performance card Radeon RX 5700 XT. The new data also reveals a step up in clock frequencies, where the Navi 10 in the Radeon RX 5700 XT peaks at a speed of 1.9 GHz, the Navi 21 reaches a full 2.2 Ghz.

The higher speed should also come with an increase in TDP level. Radeon RX 5700 XT has a maximum stated TDP of 225 watts, which according to the information rises to between 200 and 238 watts with Navi 21. For those who are not looking for really power-hungry donations, Navi 22 seems to offer a substantial upgrade over Navi 10, then the highest clock frequency here is set to 2.5 GHz. This to a slightly lower TDP level of 170 watts.

Higher clock frequencies are also accompanied by the new architecture RDNA 2, which among other things offers hardware support for ray tracing, variable image quality with VRS, efficient rendering of complex 3D geometry with Mesh Shaders, and more. This, combined with the stated high clock frequencies, guarantees a big step forward for the Radeon RX 6000 series compared to its predecessor in the current Radeon RX 5000 series.

The new data also mentions a member of the next generation of graphics cards in the Navi 3X family, namely Navi 31, which was previously glimpsed in the source code for Mac OS “Big Sur”. According to the information, this circuit gets the same specifications as Navi 21 “Big Navi”, which suggests that AMD is investing in refining and streamlining the computing units in RDNA 3 instead of increasing the number of components the graphics circuits are equipped with.
