How to Change the Alignment of Text in Excel Cells in a File?

Excel is a computer program, which is part of the Microsoft Office 365 package, and is used to create, view and modify spreadsheets.

This program is used to perform calculations as well as to organize data, it works very similar to the Word program, its main difference is that Excel is a workbook composed of a series of cells, where you can add numeric or text data, which you can align and combine as you wish.

What function allows to modify the alignment of the text in the cells?

The function that allows this modification is the alignment commands that you can find in the “Home” section, this function allows us to give the orientation that we want our text or numerical data found within each cell.

As well as we can combine one or more cells to form a single cell. This function is very practical, if we want copy and paste cell contents with keyboard in Excel to which it has already been aligned, because it will retain the alignment format.

What types of alignment can we do in Excel?

The Excel program has many functions that can help us organize our Excel workbook, one of them is the align function which has two types of alignment that we can do in Excel and they are the vertical and horizontal alignments, which will allow us to align the text in a cell and thus be able to orient the content of each cell in an appropriate way.

Horizontal alignments

In the “Alignment” section you can align horizontally by clicking on any of the three first row options. If you want to modify the horizontal alignment you can choose one of these options:

  • Align to the left.
  • Alignment to center.
  • To align to the right.

Of the vertical text

In the “Alignment” section you can align vertically by clicking on some of the three second row options. If you want to change the vertical alignment, you can choose any of these options:

  • Align at the top.
  • Align in the middle.
  • Align at the bottom.

How to undo alignment changes in Excel?

To remove an alignment change immediately after doing so, go to the top left of your screen and click on the arrow pointing to the left that says “Undo”. If you want to make more alignment changes later, selecting the cell or range of cells to select multiple cells use the key.

Then go to the “Editing” section and click on the eraser-shaped icon that says “Delete” and click “Delete Formats”. If you want to keep the modifications you have made and prevent other people from making changes, you can protect your documents or Microsoft Excel files with a password in this way only people who have the password can make changes.

What other alternatives to Excel are there?

The office automation software of Microsoft is the best known option and used by companies, students and individuals. However, it is not the only option that exists to create either text documents or spreadsheets.

There are versions of free software such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice, in addition to the Google office suite. Although these programs do not have the same variety of options as Microsoft’s proposal, they are an accessible alternative.

Google’s office suite is the easiest to recommend, since you only need a browser that supports the application and create spreadsheets or text documents will be quite simple and the results can be quite good compared to files made with Microsoft Office.

Now you not only know the way align cells in an Exce documentl in a file, but you also know other alternatives to Microsoft’s office suite. As a last note, it should be mentioned that these programs can read Microsoft Office documents without problems.

So you should not worry about using any of these programs if you prefer: you can use your documents created with Office (be it PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, or Word documents) in these programs. Although of course you must take into account that you will have to correct certain compatibility errors that will appear.
