How to create Memojis on iPhone 13

Memoji are custom emoji built into AR. They can be just your face or they can be one of the many other characters that are part of memoji; alien, chicken, cow, etc. Memoji were added in iOS 12, but they were only available on devices with Face ID or a true depth camera. For devices that meet that requirement and can run iOS 12 or later, you can configure memoji.

Memojis on iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 is the newest iPhone model today and runs iOS 15. It supports Memoji and since it is the newest model it supports all the enhancements that have been made to the feature.

Create memojis on iPhone 13

Memoji are created through the Messages app. You can choose to create several different characters once you have created the base character. Is that how it works.

  1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
  2. Select any chat thread.
  3. Touch the more options button (three dot button).
  4. Tap Edit at the top.
  5. In the application list, enable Memoji.

  1. Go back to the chat thread.
  2. Tap the Memoji icon that now appears above the keyboard.
  3. Press the More button.
  4. A memoji will be created that reflects your current expression.
  5. Use the different tabs; skin, hairstyle, eyebrows, eyes, head, nose, mouth, etc. and create a character.

Record memoji

Once you have created a memoji character, you can record and send a video with it.

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Touch the Memoji button on the keyboard.
  3. Select the character you created or one of the other available characters.
  4. Make sure the memoji responds to your facial expressions, that is, it shows your face.
  5. Tap the record button.
  6. Record a video of 30 seconds or less and send it.

Save video from memoji

If you want to save a video memoji that you have created, you will need to send it first. Once it has been sent, touch and hold the video memoji. Select save from the menu. The memoji will be saved in the Photos app.

You cannot create and save memoji from the camera. They remain a feature of the Messages app. What you can do is set a memoji as your screen / contact image. To set a memo as your contact picture, go to the Contacts application and select your own contact. Touch Edit and select a memo to set as your contact profile and photo. The memoji will sync with your contacts, that is, other people than you iMessage.
