How to fix Windows 10 does not detect the WiFi network
Most of today’s computers rely on connecting to the Internet. Some apps work offline, but you almost always need Wi-Fi in the end. Especially in these times when most people work from home. One of the most common problems that users face is that Windows 10 does not detect the WiFi network.
I don’t know if it’s more frustrating or worrying. Everyone wants their computers connected to WiFi for work or just to browse social media. We want to help you solve the problem with Windows not seeing WiFi. Let’s take a look at all the steps to fix Windows 10 WiFi problems.
1. Search and open Command Prompt (CMD) from the Start menu with administrator rights.
2. Give the command below.
netsh int ip reset
3. Close CMD and follow the steps in the next step to troubleshoot the network card.
Another sequence of commands that could help your computer detect and connect with WiFi is:
ipconfig /release
e
ipconfig /renew
4. Enter these two commands, one at a time. What they will do is release the current DHCP assigned IP address and assign a new one.
5. Are you experiencing the pop-up error “The WiFi does not have a valid IP configuration”? Enter the following commands one at a time.
netsh winsock reset ipconfig /release netsh int ip reset ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns
1. Press Windows key + I to open Settings and look for two options, one at a time:
2. The steps for both will remain the same. So, I’ll only show one. Select one of the troubleshooting options and select Apply solution automatically and click Next.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to find out if it solves the problem. Repeat the same steps for the other troubleshooting option if the problem persists.
Wait up. There is another option to fix the WiFi issue that was released with the launch of Creators Update. It doesn’t appear in search results for some reason.
I can’t give you specific steps for this solution as they may vary based on the make and model of your router. What you need to do is connect to the Internet via an ethernet cable, enter the IP address of the router in the browser 192.168.1.1 how to access the modem and change the configuration, access and change the login details. You can also check the modem manual for more details.
Note that you will need to re-connect to the WiFi network for which you will have need a password. Make sure you have it.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a process used by Windows to configure and assign an IP address to a compatible wireless device. This also includes your computer. Let’s check if the service is active.
Save all settings and check if your Windows 10 computer can now detect the WiFi network or not. You can always go back to defaults if things don’t work out.
NOTE: Changing the number of users on DHCP can help. The upper limit is 50 and going beyond it could cause errors like the one you are facing. You will need to check your router’s manual to find out how to change it.
Maybe it’s the firewall that is blocking your WiFi connection.
If it is already disabled because you are using an antivirus, disable the antivirus. You may need to restart your computer once.
I advise you to check the presence in malware using Malwarebytes.
Here is one guide in-depth on updating drivers in case of problems. It will teach you how to uninstall the driver and reinstall it because sometimes it works.
Some users have suggested that setting the channel width value to Auto helped them solve the problem with Windows 10 not detecting the WiFi network. No harm in trying and you can change it later.
There may be too many routers in your area that use the same channel width, thus obstructing the radio waves of the network. Changing the channel might help.
For reference purposes:
The mains adapter needs the power to do its magic. The power management settings of the Windows 10 computer may turn off the power to conserve battery consumption.
An error or bug may have been responsible for the corruption of the wireless profile.
Open CMD from the Start menu if admin rights again and give the following command.
netsh wlan delete profile name=WirelessProfileName
Replace “WirelessProfileName” with your network name and press Enter. When finished, you will reconnect to the network from scratch and Windows will automatically recreate a new profile.
The router will broadcast the SSID or network name to nearby devices, and that’s how it connects your laptop and smartphone to the network.
Open a new tab in the browser and open the IP address of the router, which is usually http://192.168.1.1: test and configure your wifi connection but it may be different in your case, so log in.
Usually, you will find the Enable SSID Broadcast option in Wireless Settings. You will need to restart your computer after saving the settings.
Search and open the Services app.
Find WLAN AutoConfig in the list and right-click to select Properties.
Make sure the startup type is set to automatic. Save the changes if necessary and restart the computer.
Here is a list of other services. Values are indicated in parentheses. Make sure they reflect the same on your computer.
There are so many things that could go wrong with the WiFi network. We take such services for granted, not appreciating all the technicalities that go into making them work. After fixing the WiFi network detection error, I’m sure everything will be clearer to you.
