The crystal is distinguished by factory overclocking, although it can be called an overclocked chip with a big stretch.

The GPU runs at a base clock of 1030MHz in 3D and boosts up to 1100MHz in Boost mode, but we were able to get the most out of the device by pushing that to 1163MHz.

In 2D mode, the frequency dropped to just 135 MHz, and the voltage dropped from almost 1.19 to 0.86 V.

 The GeForce GTX 760 is equipped with a couple gigabytes of GDDR5 RAM developed by SK Hynix. In theory, their effective frequency is 6 GHz, and GRAM works on them. The standard 256-bit wide memory bus for communication between the memory and the graphics core allows them to communicate at a speed of 192 Gb / s, and GPU-Z confirms this.


The cooling system is based on a pair of fans that are located above a three-section aluminum radiator.

The heat pipes are in contact with the plates through a direct contact base, which indicates the manufacturer’s desire to save money at the device production stage, but does not provide a good removal of thermal energy from power elements.

Although the tubes are tightly pressed against the graphics chip crystal, the contact area does not completely cover the chip – another oversight by the engineers.

A pair of impellers is housed in an aluminum housing that can be easily removed from the circuit board by releasing the latches and disconnecting the power supply. 96mm coolers are released by Everflow.

To test the cooler’s safety margin, we resorted to Aliens vs. Predator at high graphics settings and its maximum resolution of 2560×1440 px with filtering, but anti-aliasing turned off in order to heat up the processor more.

The device is still a budget one, not particularly overclocked, and for such picture settings, 2 GB of memory is clearly not enough.

 Testing took place with the cover of the case closed and the temperature in the room at 23 0 C. For other conditions, in particular ambient temperature, the result may be different. 

 Conclusion: despite the installation of WINDFORCE of the second generation, a fair amount of savings on the cooling system, it copes well with the removal of thermal energy from the power elements and the regulation of the speed of the impellers by controlling the voltage on each of them.Rice.  6 - GPU-Z screenshot

After half an hour of testing, GPU-Z was able to record the maximum temperature of the graphics chip at 68 0 C, with the number of revolutions barely exceeding 1700 per minute.

And this means that the device cools very well, has a good margin in case of manual overclocking, and has a balanced indicator of heat dissipation quality and acoustic comfort.

 To whom the increased noise will not interfere, you can increase the number of revolutions to the maximum. This can achieve a decrease in temperature by about a dozen degrees at maximum load. With an increase in the latter, the temperature will not rise so noticeably, but the noise level will be significant.

Overclocking possibilities were explored by activating the automatic control of the speed of the impellers by changing their power supply.

The voltage level of the video core was not affected, only the operating frequencies increased.

The overclocking capabilities of the GeForce GTX 760, to put it mildly, saddened: it was possible to increase the frequency of the graphics processor by less than 10%.

We were only able to get it up to 95 MHz, after which frame rate drops became noticeable.

Another thing is the memory, it was overclocked to 1.3 GHz, which is more than 21% in the black.

 Bottom line: after overclocking, the device could operate at a frequency of 1193 MHz and 7300 MHz. After the performance upgrade, the temperature rose to just 72 degrees Celsius, the impeller speed to approximately 1835 rpm out of a theoretically possible 3100.

Testing, as already mentioned, was carried out in a closed system unit of the following configuration:

  • motherboard Intel Siler DX79SR (Intel X79 Express);
  • CPU Core i7-3970X EE 3.5/4 GHz;
  • Phateks PH-TC14PЕ processor cooling;
  • RAM: 4 sticks of 8 GB DDR3 G.SKILL TridentX;
  • SSD: Crucial m4 256 GB;
  • HDD: WD VelociRaptor (300 ГБ);
  • Power supply: Corsair AX1200i (1.2 kW).

In order to compare the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 with other devices, the testing included:

  • GTX 770 Superclocked ACX with 2 GB of RAM;
  • Radeon R9 280X Gaming with 3 GB of VRAM on board;
  • GTX 760 OC with a more advanced WindForce version 3X cooling system and a whole 4 GB of RAM;
  • gaming graphics card R9 270X Gaming also 4 GB;
  • Radeon R9 285 ITX Compact 2048 МБ.

 To mitigate the performance impact of platform specs, a 6-core, 48x, 100MHz CPU with Load-Line Calibration enabled ran at 4800MHz and a boosted 1.3V supply. Hyper-Threading Technology was also enabled . The RAM was clocked at 2.13 GHz.

The system was running the classic Windows 7 x64 operating system with all the updates installed at that time and the latest versions of drivers for the chipset and graphics devices.

The capabilities of the devices were tested at a resolution of 1920×1080, then when it was increased to 2560×1440 px.

The quality of textures in the driver parameters did not change, anisotropic filtering was set at 16x + AF16x.

FSAA enabled at 4x and 8x levels.

The first value was used when a value of 8 times did not allow the number of frames per second required for normal perception. V-sync was not active.Rice.  7 - Specifications

 In some applications, due to the peculiarities of the engines on which they are developed, the settings have been slightly changed, which will be indicated in the tests themselves. 

We chose a couple of synthetic tests and 14 gaming applications (all on DirectX 11):

  • 3DMark released in 2013 (DirectX 9/11) – chose Fire Strike, Fire Strike Extreme and Cloud Gate algorithms;
  • Unigine Valley Bench – DX11 only, maximum graphics settings at 1920×1080;
  • Batman: Arkham Origins – ultra settings with visual effects enabled, hardware acceleration and a double pass of the test;
  • Battlefield 4 – two runs of the TASHGAR scripted scene;
  • BioShock Infinite – double test run with Ultra and then Ultra+DOF settings;
  • Company of Heroes 2 – all physical effects are activated, the maximum image quality is selected;
  • Crysis 3 – the best graphics, glare included, average quality of special effects, anti-aliasing 4x;
  • GRID 2 – 8 cars on the track “Chicago”, all sliders to the right to the limit, MSAA 8x, and then without it;
  • Hitman: Absolution – Ultra graphics, anti-aliasing and global illumination activated;
  • Metro: Last Light – very high image quality, SSAA enabled and then disabled, Advanced PhysX enabled;
  • Sleeping Dogs – integrated Hi-Res Textures pack, no synchronization, normal anti-aliasing, best graphics;
  • Sniper Elite V2 – the best graphics;
  • Thief – tessellation enabled;
  • Tomb Raider – Ultra settings, no sync, double anti-aliasing;
  • Total War: Rome II – graphics at the level of Extreme, without V-Sync and with SSAA anti-aliasing;
  • Total War: SHOGUN 2 – maximum image quality, MSAA at 8x.

 If the toys have the function of fixing the minimum number of fps issued, they were included in the graphs. After two runs, the best result was chosen with a difference within 1%.  The results of video cards from the GeForce GTX 760 with different memory sizes and cooling systems are almost the same . The older model is slightly ahead of the hero of the review, but this difference is not significant. It becomes significant only in games that require a large amount of memory, for example, Company of Heroes 2. Otherwise, the improved GTX 760 is ahead of the younger one by 2-2.6% at 1920×1080 and a little more – 2.5-3.2% at 2560×1440 px.

The electrical power consumption of the systems was measured using Zalman’s ZM-MFC3 in 3D and 2D video adapter modes.

The GeForce GTX 760 is a very good solution among budget video cards for building a multimedia computer or a weak gaming system with a small monitor.

Compared to other versions of the model, it is actually not inferior to them in terms of performance, but it has a more favorable price.
