How to reset iPad without password – Easy Steps

How to reset iPad without password

This article covers two ways to factory reset an iPad without the password.

How do I factory reset my iPad without the password?

Apple added the requirement to enter the password used to activate the iPad as a security and anti-theft measure. Although this is a great security feature (it works very well), it means that there is a problem when you don’t have the password. We can help you, but there is one very important drawback to be aware of: when you follow the instructions in this article, you will erase all the data on the iPad. If your goal is to factory reset your iPad (perhaps you sell yourself), this procedure is probably what you want. If you’re troubleshooting, you’ll need to set up the iPad from scratch, and you may be able to restore the iPad from a recent backup (assuming you have one, of course).

These techniques apply whether you don’t have your Apple ID password or the iPad password needed to unlock your tablet.

Factory reset iPad using computer

There are two ways to factory reset an iPad without a password. The first is to use a computer to put the iPad into recovery mode and then reset it. This is what you need to do:

1. Your first step depends on the type of computer you have.

  • 2. If you’re using a Mac with macOS Catalina (10.15), make sure your Mac’s operating system is up to date.
  • If you’re using an older Mac or Windows, make sure iTunes is up to date.

2. Power off your iPad.

3. Again, the type of computer you have determines this step:

  • For a Mac with macOS Catalina (10.15) and later, open the Discoverer.
  • On an older PC or Mac, open itunes.

4. Connect the USB sync cable to your iPad, but not to your computer yet.

5. If your iPad has a button welcomehold it down and connect the cable to the computer.

If your iPad doesn’t have a home button, press and hold Alto pressed and connect to the computer.

6. Hold down the button until the recovery mode screen appears on the iPad.

7. On the computer, click on the iPad in the window of the Finder (in the sidebar, under Locations) or in itunes below the playback controls in the upper left corner.

8. In the window that appears, click To restoreand follow the on-screen prompts.

9. When the process is complete, your iPad is returned to factory settings and is ready to be set up from scratch.

Factory reset iPad using an iCloud

Don’t have a computer to use? You can factory reset an iPad without a password through iCloud by following these steps:

1. Make sure iPad is connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.

2. On another device, go to iCloud.com and sign in with the Apple ID associated with iPad.

3. Click Find an iPhone.

4. Click All devicesthen the iPad you want to reset.

5. Click Erase iPad.

6. Follow the on-screen instructions, and after a few minutes, your iPad will return to factory settings and can be set up from scratch.
