Google Maps offers turn-by-turn directions. If you are driving, the app will read the instructions out loud, but you can use it if you are walking or cycling. If you are reading on the map and it is difficult for you to follow the instructions, you can also use the live view.
Live view of Google Maps
The live view of Google Maps is an augmented reality mode in Google Maps. Once enabled, you can use Google Maps through a camera. You will overlay directional arrows to indicate where to turn.
There is a limitation to this feature, a big one. Live View is only available in countries where Street View is available. Countries where Street View is only available in certain cities or select locations will not have Live View. The feature is also in beta, so the number of available spots is even more limited. Lastly, the live view is only for when you walk. It doesn’t work on a moving vehicle and you really shouldn’t try to find a workaround for this.
Use live view on Google Maps
To use live view on Google Maps, you must have the Google Maps application installed and you must have access to your device’s camera. If you have never enabled camera access for Google Maps, you will be able to enable it when you switch to live view.
- Abre Google Maps.
- Tap your profile picture in the upper right.
- Select Settings.
- Go to Navigation.
- Scroll to the bottom and turn on the Live View switch.
- Return to the main Google Maps screen.
- Please enter a destination.
- Touch the Directions button.
- Select the walk option.
- Hold your phone vertically and it should automatically enter Live View.
Note: Live View option will appear in Google Maps settings regardless of whether the feature is available in your country or not.
conclusion
Live view is great when you need to get somewhere on foot and roads or paths are not that easy to follow on a map. For denser cities that have many smaller streets that Google Maps can’t accurately guide you through, it’s a great tool. With that said, you will be given directions via live view and may not necessarily point you to a street or path that you take to follow the directions they give you. You may have to figure out the way yourself with the app that shows you the direction to go.
